USING ARTISTS TO GET YOUR MASH-UP ON A POPULAR BLOG

Hey mash-up artists, want to get featured on Perez Hilton? I got a hint: use one of his favorite artists. In a chat with mash-up duo The Jane Doze (more on that coming soon), we explored the idea of getting featured on blogs looking particular at the relationship between “Vampire Diaries” actress and hopeful singer Kat Graham and controversial blogger Perez Hilton. He features her frequently on his site with posts about her music career and had a spot at his SXSW show. And with Perez’s love of Graham, several mash-up artists have benefited as well.

MASH-UP ARTIST 3LAU LOOKS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE SELLING NEW REMIX

With the mindset of turning their love of electronic dance music into something positive, popular mash-up artist/remixer/producer 3lau is looking to raise enough money to start a school in an underprivileged country. Last night (April 23), 3lau released the video where he explains how fortunate he feels for his education as he attends a great school of Washington University in St. Louis. He wants to grant this same blessing to those less fortunate and is looking to his fans to make this a reality in conjunction with the Pencils of Promise charity. Can he do it?

K-POP GROUP SHINEE RELEASE MASH-UP SINGLE

One of South Korea’s most popular groups SHINee (who performed in New York’s SM Town concert in Madison Square Garden that I reported on for Billboard) has made their Korean comeback with an extremely interesting lead single. The group has combined two tracks on their new EP “Sherlock” to create a proper mash-up track that shares its title with their EP. Their comeback single combines two tracks “Clue” and “Note” to make an extremely strong and catchy single. Check it out after the cut.

MASH-UP DUO THE JANE DOZE GET TO SXSW WITH UNIQUE KICKSTARTER PLAN

Attending SXSW last year as spectators, The Jane Doze (@thejanedoze) knew they wanted to come back as performers. Once offers to play came in, the pop music mash-up duo did not have the resources to make their SXSW dreams a reality.  A self-run and self-sustaining act, they turned to Kickstarter for the first time with a unique twist.

“We really pay attention to our interactions with fans and people via social media so when we did the Kickstarter campaign it was really important to focus on the rewards we were offering and make it standout from other campaigns people were doing,” says one half of the act Jen Mozenter, who works in Digital Marketing at Columbia Records.

BIGBANG WINS WORLDWIDE ACT EMA AWARD OVER BRITNEY SPEARS & OTHERS

Well this is sure an indication K-Pop has hit HARD! BIGBANG, the five-member K-Pop boyband created in 2006 and one of South Korea’s biggest acts, snagged the Worldwide Act Award at the European MTV Awards this week. Their competition was relatively tough as they represented South Korea/Asia against Abdelfattah Grini (Africa/India/Middle East), Lena (Europe), Restart (Latin America), and the biggest competition from Britney Spears (North America). Check the video of their win  below and why I think the award is totally legitmate after the cut.

MUST READ: GOOGLE PLANS K-POP CHANNEL, AND MORE? (WSJ)

Well anyone who watched YouTube could see this a big “DUH!” but I, for one, am surprised its actually happening. Click on THIS GREAT ARTICLE from the Wall Street Journal about Google (who owns YouTube) meeting with Korean IT execs. If numbers alone are anything to go by, then Google is making a GREAT move by working with them on creating a channel. Those videos get too many views in the U.S. to ignore! Do we all remember the 20. 6 million viewed sensation that was 4minute’s HyunA? Need a reminder? Please click here.

GIRLS’ GENERATION RELEASE FIRST ENGLISH SINGLE “THE BOYS”

Asia’s biggest girl group (and essentially the world as the U.S. doesn’t have any girl groups, despite the Pussycat Dolls making a comeback) Girls’ Generation shook up the model by releasing their new single “The Boys” in two versions in English and Korean. The girls showed how serious they were about the release teaming up with powerhouse American record label, Interscope Records, for the release. While it turns out the song was not actually promoted and is not a proper English release, it could start a new trend with K-Pop groups when they release.

EXCLUSIVE: FRANKMUSIK ON MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS’ NEW SOUND

As a part of promotions for his recently released Do It In The AM album, British pop singer/producer Frankmusik has been touring with Erasure, around America. At his N.Y. show, I had the chance to chat and photograph him (left) where we got on some interesting topics which you can read here on Billboard.biz. One point that didn’t make it into that original piece was about another English singer who is trying out a new sound. If you didn’t know, Frank left the U.K. at the peak of his success and is now coming for America with a reinvented sound.

CHERYL COLE NABS ANOTHER HOT AMERICAN PRODUCER, CAN SHE BREAK THE US?

Speaking of Britain’s most popular girl group…look who else is making headlines! Nadine‘s bandmate Cheryl Cole was just snapped heading out of an LA studio with one of the hottest producers in American right now, Alex Da Kid. While Cheryl had a chance to really hit the American public with her guest spot on USA X Factor (which she ended up unfairly losing to Nicole Scherzinger), it looks she is going to try her best to hit the American consciousness with her music.

UNRELEASED SONG INFO: “LOVING THE BIG SHARK” BY NADINE

While Nadine premiered a new track “Save Me” at her New York performance on September 16th, I have some exclusive info regarding an unreleased track Nadine recorded during her initial “Insatiable” recording sessions. When I talk to people, whether they be artists or my friends, I pride myself on getting the person(s) I interview to reveal something they hadn’t before and make our talk remarkable and Nadine opened up about her “subconscious” writing style that ended up creating an unreleased track “Loving The Big Shark.”

EXCLUSIVE: INTERVIEW WITH JESSIE AND THE TOY BOYS PART II

In the first installment of the many exclusive updates coming to Multidimensional Music this summer, I give you the finishing touches on an interview with Jessie and The Toy Boys. Jessie currently got a huge, huge opportunity opening for Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj in the Femme Fatale Tour going across the U.S. now. (Let me remind you, Lady GaGa also was on a huge tour before her album came out which is quite rare. But that was New Kids On The Block.) Check out more of the intelligent and lovely Jessie below: Continue reading

SUMMER HIATUS…A.K.A. ONLY THE EXCLUSIVES (STICKY)

Hey guys! Summer is upon us and whether you knew or not, but I am currently embarking on the journey I originally put myself on with this blog in the real world now! I am writing for Billboard both online and in the actual magazine. That being said, there’s only so much music I can write about in a day. While trying to balance two jobs, make money, and still have time to read, relax, and fully take advantage of my summer…this blog, however near and dear it is to my heart, will need to take a backseat.

Yet, because it is so near and dear AND because I AM still writing about the elements that this blog was created on, you will be in Multidimensional Music’s Summer Version where you will get strictly the best and most exclusive updates!

When I do interviews or get exclusive information, it’s a reality that not all of it gets printed or published. So, when you see a post here at M-M.net, it’s because its no one else has it and the information HAS to get out because I know how important that is for fans; I’m one myself, obviously. Song Of The Day will be updated as much as possible with stuff you guys just got to hear.

I am on solid ground with my summer now and in order to do the best work I can at my job, I have to make that my first priority, but I have not forgotten about my followers and readers.

Keep checking back…lots of exciting news to come. In the meantime, check out Billboard.com and flood the posts I write with comments 😉

Love…
