Well this is sure an indication K-Pop has hit HARD! BIGBANG, the five-member K-Pop boyband created in 2006 and one of South Korea’s biggest acts, snagged the Worldwide Act Award at the European MTV Awards this week. Their competition was relatively tough as they represented South Korea/Asia against Abdelfattah Grini (Africa/India/Middle East), Lena (Europe), Restart (Latin America), and the biggest competition from Britney Spears (North America). Check the video of their win below and why I think the award is totally legitmate after the cut.
While it may be easy for (the crazed) Britney Spears fans to say that the only reason she lost was because BIGBANG showed up to the awards. And why wouldn’t they regardless if they won or loss, this is huge international exposure for them? The thing is I’m POSITIVE that MTV would play an acceptance speech video from Britney Spears for the show. They didn’t need BIGBANG to show up, but they would love Britney. But instead the Asian act won and that’s how the record books will! Congrats BIGBANG! This is huge for K-Pop!
