EXCLUSIVE: FRANKMUSIK ON MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS’ NEW SOUND

As a part of promotions for his recently released Do It In The AM album, British pop singer/producer Frankmusik has been touring with Erasure, around America. At his N.Y. show, I had the chance to chat and photograph him (left) where we got on some interesting topics which you can read here on Billboard.biz. One point that didn’t make it into that original piece was about another English singer who is trying out a new sound. If you didn’t know, Frank left the U.K. at the peak of his success and is now coming for America with a reinvented sound.

Frank spoke about Marina and The Diamonds who is currently promoting promoting her revamped sound and image with “Radioactive.”

Frank mentioned that he had been following her massively and spoke about how he feels on her new project:

The problem, not problem the reason why I feel for Marina is because she has to rely on other people to get stuff done. It must be much harder for artist to create a vision through other people. I’m so lucky that I get to just sit in front of the computer and kick my own ass about stuff that’s not working. She’s being very, very, very brave.

What I’m doing is very selfish and very self-centered. I’m very lucky that I can put myself in those situations. Marina’s taking on a real thing because she has negotiate with not only with herself, but with new producers, the record label, and sell a new vision that she wasn’t signed for. That’s crazy brave.

Frankmusik’s new album debuted at #11 on the Dance/Electronic albums chart selling 1,000 copies in his first week.

What do you think of both Frankmusik & Marina and The Diamonds’ new sounds? Will it work in America? Tell me in the comments!
