Being from Chicago, Lollapalooza has a special place in my heart. The festival, which I attended first in 2007 where I saw Pearl Jam, Amy Winehouse, M.I.A., The Wailers, and even Lady GaGa (when she had brown hair). The 2011 line-up was just revealed with a very intriguing list. With four huge artists acting as headliners– dominating Eminem, returning punk band Foo Fighters, Coldplay (whose comeback must be closer than we think), & indie favorites Muse –looks to be even bigger than ever but still maintaining its credibility of showcasing great and unique talent.

Some other great choices by Lollapalooza include:

  • Especially popular and “The Voice” judge Cee Lo Green
  • Electronic DJ and producer DeadMau5 (a hipster favorite)
  • Raggae and rap’s unbeatable duo Damien “Jr. Gong” Marley & Nas
  • Indie/Emo favorites Bright Eyes
  • One of The UK’s most popular bands Artic Monkeys
  • Electro/Indie Pop band creating waves on the blogosphere Crystal Castles
  • Electronic (as well as Kid Cudi’s) favorites Ratatat (who were just recently trending on Twitter…anyone know why?)
  • Innovative music video creators and wonderful band OK Go
  • Underrated and completely amazing Swedish chanteuse Lykke Li
  • Noisy but fun pop duo Sleigh Bells
  • Indie Pop honey and one of Britain’s finest imports Ellie Goulding
  • Critical favorite Grace Potter & The Nocturals
  • Fun and hip Noah & The Whale
  • Another one of The UK’s finest and current US breakout star Tinie Tempah
  • Indie favorite Lissie
  • Christina Perri from “Jar Of Hearts” fame
  • Alex Da Kid protege and on your favorite rapper’s current single Skylar Grey
  • Fall Out Boy frontman, now solo EP artist, Patrick Stump
  • Taylor Momsen’s ode to the 90’s band The Pretty Reckless
  • Estonian electronic pop diva Kerli

Along with several big names announced performing in the “Perry’s” section, which I’m going to assume is another venue near Grant Park that these artists will play shows at, but also has a ton of great names including:

  • Mash up extraordinaire and the RIAA’s public enemy #1 Girl Talk
  • Indie kids’ (and Kanye West’s) favorite rapper Kid Cudi
  • International producer Afrojack
  • The boy Diddy and Jay-Z fight over Jay Electronica

Amongst lots of other great and big names, these are just what excited me. Now I’m probably going to be in New York for the summer…but this list is making me want to plan an extra trip home. I’ve stayed away from Lollapalooza since 2007 because I wasn’t excited enough by the list, but this year might just make me come back depending how the break up the artists.

You can read the entire list HERE. Are you excited about Lollapalooza or any other festivals this year? Tell me in the comments, I always respond.
