16. Don’t Keep Me Waiting (Produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins)
To be honest, I’m a little upset over this tracklisting…do you see how many times Dr. Luke & Max Martin are on the tracks? And the really interesting producers like Rusko, William Orbit, Xenomania, amongst others aren’t even included at all. I just can’t believe will.i.am got two tracks on the standard version of the album with huge hit makers Stargate & Darkchild only making the deluxe version. Really interesting, but we’ll have to see how the album shapes up. Mostly, I’ve been disappointed but I was really hoping the non-single tracks were going to be unique and interesting but it looking less and less like that now. Oh well, we’ll have to see what the music finally sounds like when it comes.
The next batch of exciting new release previews comes from the album that is finally coming out, be it only in The UK, Nicole Scherzinger’s apparently titled Killer Love album. 30-second previews of each track have come out online with them ranging to sounding quite promising to very traditional pop. Luckily, the already leaked but very beautiful “Powers Out” featuring Sting (how did she land that feature?!) is on the tracklisting which I’m very excited about. Some other tracks that seem promising include Club Banger Nation, Wet, Desperate, and Casulty. Nicole should be excited that her album is finally being released, though I’m still a little surprised its getting a push that is…I mean she only had about a week of exciting promo landing her single at #3, and the new single just received a music video…but that’s about it. I mean, good luck Scherzy. I have a feeling she’s just happy the album is actually out under her name and not the prison she calls The Pussycat Dolls.

And now the release I’m most excited about (though it comes with a little sadness because the whole album was supposed to be out by now…) but it’s Sky Ferreira’s AS IF! EP coming March 22nd. Led by the EP’s single “Sex Rules,” which I don’t think was a good idea…the track is pretty good but I don’t think its going to catch on. They shouldn’t have gone with the ultra-safe methodology of “Obsession,” but they shouldn’t have done this either. Maybe Sky’s funding this all herself?
Anyway, the rest of the tracks sound REALLY, like REALLY promising. I’m going to go through all of them real quick since its only 5 tracks! Yippee! First we have “Sex Rules” which totally sounds like it stole parts of a Prince track…in particular “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” It’s nice, but like I said not single material. The next we have the dub-step inspired ballad “Traces.” I’ve been waiting for someone to truly take on this idea of mixing dubstep with a ballad, and I’m so excited to hear what Sky has to offer on this.
“Haters Anonymous” is probably one of the most atypical tracks I’ve heard in recent mind that seems to read more like a report or a spy’s journal. I’ll probably love it because one of my favorite movies of all time is Harriet The Spy. “99 Tears” is similar to “Sex Rules” also taking on an 80’s influence and is probably the most marketable single. It seems just too safe though and I think Sky wanted to push something a little edgier anyway. And then we end with the very cool electronic track “108” with the striking lyric “What I’m about to say is going sound strange. My secret lover is 108.” Huh? Regardless the track with its piano chords and continuation of intersting lyrics (“the doctor’s saying that I’m overpaid”) already has me hooked. Like I said, I’m pissed there’s not an albums worth of material, but an EP of 5 tracks works just fine for me. Listen to the 30-preview tracks HERE.
All in all, I’m really excited to hear all these albums and hopefully will be inspired to buy them all. We’ll just have to see. Who are you excited to hear? Any of these ladies? Tell me in the comments!
