Well it’s Friday night and I wanted to give you guys a hot uptempo track you could play while getting ready to go out. If you’re one of the few people who don’t own Lady GaGa‘s The Fame album then you most likely haven’t been exposed to one of the best tracks on the album “Starstruck” featuring Space Cowboy & Flo Rida. This track was mostly inspired by my post on Nadia Oh and reminding me about Space Cowboy and Lady GaGa’s amazing chemistry together which gives us the song of the day.
“Groove, slam, work it back, filter that, baby bump that track,” starts GaGa in a monotone autotuned voice that eventually, adds in some hand claps, before crashing into the waves of 80’s-inspired synth explosions. The chorus then explodes into a universe of, what was in 2008, a totally new version of electronica in the chorus that shows GaGa & Space Cowboy trading off verses.
When talking about the track initially, GaGa called it the creation what the baby of her and Space Cowboy would sound like. Even when she released this track in October of 2008, just as “Just Dance” was beginning to pick up on the charts and in radio stations, it reached the Top 50 of US iTunes (possibly due to the recognizable Flo Rida feature?) showing a true interest in the track. I remember I was actually working for GaGa & her team when the album was released in New York and I told Space Cowboy about the track’s success and he was in such a great mood the rest of the night!
I’m still a staunch believer that this song would have been a hit in the US if the label hadn’t wanted to push that new Fame Monster EP. I still think its a brilliant track and was addicted the second I heard it. So heres an actual GaGa track (that doesn’t sound too much like GaGa) so if you’re worried about looking lame, people won’t know! Enjoy…
