One of my favorite artists and one of the few artists constantly producing new music, none other than Moby, is back with a new single! Titled “Be The One,” the track is lifted off his upcoming spring album Destroyed. Before the album is officially released though Moby is also releasing an EP titled Be The One EP featuring 2 new songs.
Hear the song, get a review of it, and a preview of the 2 new songs after the cut.
The new single “Be The One” is unlike anything we’ve heard from Moby recently. The track, which is posted below, shows Moby going completely back to electronica land but this time with a bit of a rock twist. A ghost-like robotic voice repeats the lyrics of the song, with the same inflections throughout the whole song which is a trait of Moby’s “vocalists,” and is a nice constant throughout the mellow then up-tempo instrumental backing. The song also has some of Moby’s signature violin sounds, but all in all shows a progression and change in Moby that new and old fans should enjoy. It does remind me a little of Ladytron though.
Sevastopol vvery tpyically Moby but with a modern twist. Additionally, we are able to get a preview of 2 new Moby songs with The UK’s Amazon posting his upcoming EP for pre-sale.
In it we hear a track called “Sevastopol” which sounds like a very typical Moby production but with a modern twist again making sure to keep with current electronic sounds, but of course with a signature Moby violin accompaniment. As well, the last song of the EP “Victoria Lucas” seems to include other signature Moby styles that he’s mastered including an old soul sample (or maybe its a new recording? Can’t tell yet) with some great pianos that sound similar to his Last Night track “I Love To Move In Here.”
All in all, I’m excited!! While I wasn’t feeling the down tempo and somber feelings of his last album Wait For Me, it seems like Moby is back to doing what he does best by sticking with his signature styles (have I used that phrase enough this post?) and will be making an album that could bring him back to bigger mainstream success–though I doubt he needs it; his music is still always being licensed.
