While I was pretty turned off (musically) by Ricky Martin‘s first single off his new album M.usica A.lma S.exo (or at least I think that’s how its being called…album cover is on the left) “Best The Thing About Me Is You” with Joss Stone…which seemed like SUCH a winning combination, Ricky has gained back my attention with his new latin banger “Frio” featuring hot raggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel.
The song’s beginning is actually one of the strongest points with a cold wind sound (¿un viento frio? ¿sí?) with Ricky crooning over a building synth beat that soon explodes into some hard hitting latin drums and violins over some great raggaeton vocals which may or may not be Wisin y Yandel…I can’t tell.
The drums and violins continue on with different percussion instruments joining them, as Ricky and Wisin y Yandel switch off on verses and harmonizes with each other never outshining each other but instead working as an awesome team.
The song goes from soft to loud to danceable to chilled out, and stands as not only one of the best Latin tracks this year but also as one of the best tracks of this year! I’m loving that Ricky hasn’t forgotten to keep his Latin roots in his music (like a certain musician who wants to f$&% you tonight…) and it comes off much more of an organic sound for Ricky than some of his past singles have sounded…like his debut one. Stick to what works Ricky!! If he keeps up with music like this hopefully people will once again focus on him as a singer and not just as the hot Latino who just came out…I’m looking at you Oprah.
Anyway, take a listen to this awesome track and take a listen to one of the best Latin tracks of 2011 so far:
