I’m so excited to bring you guys another new artist! Here we have Norwegian duo Eva & The Heartmaker. So basically, just like Florence + The Machine, Marina & The Diamonds, Jessie & The Toy Boys…and countless other acts coming out these days this shows the main female singer giving her production team credit in the name by always making sure they’re included in the band’s namesake–which is very sweet. None the less, just like all the aforementinoed Eva & The Heartmaker are making great, addicting music together and getting better by the day!
The wife/husband duo of Eva Weel Skram and Thomas Stenersen competed in the 2005 Norwegian Idol and gained some success with their first two albums, the last released in 2009. Early standout tracks by the duo include the extremely cute “Superhero” and the piano-tinged, bittersweet sounds of “Stupid Heart” that use real instruments & have a much more organic, pop/rock sound. Coming off the also nice number “Mr. Toyko,” the group is coming the hardest they ever have with their earworm of a new single “Signal” that had me singing along to when I walked away from my computer after hearing it for the very first time–always a good sign.
“Signal” starts off as an 80’s tinged adventure with energetic synthesizers and guitar riffs. Eva’s sweet vocals sound completely at home on these beats and works SO well. She sounds great on the chorus serenading us with the “your radio” line. I also love how they don’t use the word ‘signal’ in the chorus, but instead have the ‘your radio’ chorus carry over by having the next line start with ‘signal.’ Just a nice, clever aspect I appreciate.
I can’t find much information about Eva & The Heartmaker yet, but if they’re upcoming music is as addicting as “Signals” I could see them becoming club staples and making some big dents on the Club charts even if they never try to break into the US.
Take a listen to the addicting, must hear “Signals” below as well as the music videos for “Mr. Toyko” and “Superhero” and:
