GOLDEN GLOBE DIVAS: WHO WILL WIN BEST SONG?

The Golden Globes are tonight and while it mostly has nothing to do with music there is one category we get excited about–Best Original Song! While technically the song is awarded to the songwriters, the actual singers of each nomination are all divas in their own right. There’s a living legend, an American Idol, a popular pop star turned actress, a not as popular pop star turned popular actress, and an actress taking her first dip into singing. And even though the songwriters are the ones who win, the win will end up with a huge increase of digital downloads and a boost for album sales and could be an early indication of performers and possibly frontrunners to be seen at The Academy Awards. Here’s who we’re looking at:

“There’s A Place For Us” Carrie Underwood–music and lyrics by Hillary Lindsey, Carrie Underwood and David Hodges from “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader.”

“You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me” Cher–music & lyrics by Diane Warren from “Burlesque.”

“Bound To You” Christina Aguilera–music & lyrics by Sam Dixon, Sia, and Christina Aguilera from “Burlesque.”

“I See The Light” Mandy Moore & Zac Levi–music and lyrics by Alan Menken & Glenn Slater from “Tangled.”

“Country Strong” Gwyneth Paltrow–music and lyrics by Bob DiPiero, Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey and Troy Verges.

So we have some big competition! This isn’t a year like when the only remarkable music piece was “Jai Ho!” from “Slumdog Millionaire,” there’s a lot of great music released. Some interesting facts to be seen is that Diane Warren (who’s wrote the Cher ballad from “Burlesque” as well as classic songs like “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith, “How Do I Live” LeAnn Rimes, “Un-Break My Heart” Toni Braxton, the list goes on and on) has been nominated 4 times for her songwriting for The Golden Globes but hasn’t won. Also, don’t let the fact that “Burlesque” having 2 nominations skew your thinking since there was a year that Disney’s “Enchanted” had every nomination but one and the other nominee “Once” ended up winning. Anything can happen! Also Cher, Christina, and Zac Levi attended and presented at The Golden Globes last year possibly giving them a hand up. It could go any way, but I got to say with it becoming the 31st most played song on my iTunes…I’m rooting for “Bound To You.” Go Sia & Xtina!

**I also heard on my radio station just now that Katy Perry  & Lady GaGa are performing at the awards tonight. I can’t find any information on it. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I love Carrie Underwood’s Narnia song the best, but my second favorite song is Christina’s Bound to You.The Disney Tangled song sung by Mandy Moore is also very pretty. It is a tight race, honestly. It could go either way.

I’m rooting for “Bound To You” also! 😀
