HitFix is exclusively reporting that Christina Aguilera will be performing the National Anthem at the upcoming Superbowl XLV. There’s been no official announcement from Christina’s camp and a response from the NFL saying “No comment, when we have something to announce, we will announce it.”

If this turns out to be true, this could be yet another huge move for Christina to continue up her current climb. Burlesque turned out to be a hit and Christina’s confirmed that she’s going back into the studio now to record an album in the same vain as 2002’s Stripped. Christina’s manager also confirmed that she will go on tour in 2011, but that has yet to have any more details arise.

This Superbowl  performance could really be a redeeming performance for Xtina, especially if she really nails it. The Superbowl is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, television specials all year and having her amazing voice watched by millions could just remind everyone why this singer is so special. Meaning also that the pressure’s on and she really has to nail it.

This will be the second championship that Christina’s performed at in a year’s time by earlier performing at one of the NBA Championship games and then being asked back to sing the National Anthem again when the Los Angeles Lakers won after her singing, naming her their good luck charm.

I hope this is true because with the bad press she had, she really needs a huge stage like this to really make a comeback in everyone’s eyes. I think this is perfect for Christina, and I hope it ends up true. There somewhat of a “redemptive” quality to singing The National Anthem at the Superbowl, in a similar way how Jennifer Hudson brought herself back into the spotlight after the horrible tragedy that bestowed her family and while I’m not saying hers and Christina’s situations are at all alike, there is this air of redeeming oneself with this opportunity.
