In today’s installment of “What If…” I’m considering what could be former leader of the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger‘s “second” single (second is in quotes because Nicole has actually released about 5 singles at this point, all of which have not caught on besides the lackluster “Poision” which hit #3 in the UK, somehow giving her all she needs to finally release this album) which is titled “Don’t Hold Your Breath.”
Earlier this year, the tricky Tapemasters Inc leaked out a track given the name “Hold Your Breath” featuring Timbaland and Keri Hilson on vocals. The song had a slick production and was catchy as hell, but never showed up on Tim’s Shock Value II or even Hilson’s just released No Boys Allowed albums. While the version leaked could have been in the demo stages, without the pesky Tapemasters Inc. tags, the song sounded finished.
While Nicole made sure everyone and their mama knew that hit record producer RedOne (responsible for every generic pop hit as of lately–“Bad Romance” Lady GaGa, “Fire Burning” Sean Kingston, “I Like It” Enrique Iglesias, etc.) worked with her on “Poison” it would seem she’d want to plug a big name like Timbaland since she really does need all the help she can get with her music career (reality TV loves you Nicole!). Perhaps Nicole’s hesistant to mention Timbaland’s name in case they decide to keep the song a duet and she has another male vocalist on the track instead of Timbaland, which may confuse fans due to the fact “Hold Your Breath” has already leaked. Additionally, when songs leak early artists usually slightly change the title of the song as to present as a new song instead of the possibility as appearing as something already heard.
Regardless this song is too good to not be released at some point. Would Nicole do it justice if she released it? Tell me your thoughts below and I’ll reveal my thoughts in the comments as well. Take a listen if you haven’t yet either:
